  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon maple extract
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 2 Tablespoons unsalted butter (for icing)
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup (for icing)
  • 1 cup sifted confectioners’ sugar
  • pinch salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. Whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  2. In a mixer, cream softened butter and dark brown sugar until smooth. Add the egg, then mix in maple syrup and extracts until combined.
  3. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed. Fold in chopped pecans.
  4. Chill dough for at least 2 hours before shaping into balls and placing on parchment-lined baking sheets.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C) and bake cookies for 12–13 minutes until lightly browned at the edges.
  6. Allow cooling on wire racks before drizzling with maple icing made from melted butter, maple syrup, and confectioners’ sugar.
