  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons light corn syrup
  • 34 tablespoons milk
  • Gel food coloring (red and blue)
  • Silver star sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Add vanilla, salt, and egg yolk; mix well. Gradually stir in flour until combined.
  3. Roll out dough on a floured surface to ¼ inch thick. Cut into star shapes using cookie cutters and place on prepared sheets.
  4. Bake for about 10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden. Cool completely on a rack.
  5. For icing, mix powdered sugar, corn syrup, milk, and vanilla until smooth; tint with gel food coloring as desired.
  6. Decorate cooled cookies with icing and finish with sprinkles.
